Back on Top in 2023
In his 16th season leading the program, Coach Beach led the Golden Eagles to their sixth SUNYAC Title in program history and the second during his tenure. The squad defeated conference rival, Cortland twice on its home field in the SUNYAC Tournament to claim the trophy and the automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championships. Zach Eldred was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while Andrew Huffman, Patrick Bigham, Justin Pangburn, and David Belsito made the All-Tournament Team. Brockport headed to the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season in 2023. This team had seven all-conference selections, including Eldred earning the title of Co-Bob Wallace Player of the Year. Eldred was joined by teammate Nick Pastore with D3baseball.com All-Region honors, while Johnny Genau made the ABCA/NCAA DIII Region III All-Defensive Team.
2022's Memorable Season
Coach Beach led the Golden Eagles to a historical run during the spring of 2022. With a record of 33-11, the team's 33 wins marks the second highest in a season in program history. Included in these wins was a 16-game win streak, setting a new program-record for consecutive wins. Beach also hit a personal milestone in 2022, officially surpassing 300 wins for his career at Brockport. The team earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, after making a run to the SUNYAC Finals in the conference tournament. The season was capped off with four All-SUNYAC 1st-Team selections, three ABCA All-Region and D3baseball.com All-Region selections. Tom Kretzler became just the fourth All-American in program history, was ABCA Regional Player of the Year, D3baseball.com Regional Player of the Year, and SUNYAC Player of the Year. Andrew Huffman also earned individual recognition as the SUNYAC Pitcher of the Year and a COSIDA Academic All-American.
Building Sustained Success
After being named head baseball coach in 2008, Beach won the most games as a first-year head coach leading the team to a 26-19-1 record. The program has reached the SUNYAC conference tournament in 11 out of 15 complete seasons with Beach at the helm. The Golden Eagles had an outstanding season under Beach in 2011 when they won 30 games and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's New York Regional for the second consecutive season. Beach has led the program to at least 20 wins 12 times since taking over the program.
Under Beach's Guidance
In his 16 years at Brockport Beach has coached 64 all-conference players including 34 First-Team selections, a Rookie of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, and four Players of the Year. Beach was named SUNYAC Coach of the year in 2011, 2014, and 2021. Additionally, he coached a Rochester Area College Athlete of the Year (Rob Maxwell, 2011). Since taking over the program he has led the squad to two SUNYAC Championship, eight SUNYAC Finals appearances, and four trips to the NCAA Division III Championships.
Before Brockport
As a player, Beach starred at Hudson Valley Community College where he led the Vikings to a Regional Championship and a fifth-place finish in the 2001 NJCAA World Series before transferring to Brockport as a junior. After graduating from Brockport in 2003, Beach accepted a position as a graduate assistant in the Department of Physical Education and Sport. He was an assistant coach with the team (2004-07) helping the team to a 108-64 record, four appearances in the SUNYAC Tournament and a trip to the College World Series in 2004.
Justin Beach was named head baseball coach in June of 2008 after one season as the interim head coach. Brockport has emerged as one of the top teams in the New York Region and Beach has continued the program’s recent success in 2016, making the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament for the 15th time in 16 years. In his ten seasons as head baseball coach, he has yet to see a losing season, earning at least 20 wins every year.
Beach has led Golden Eagle teams to the NCAA Regional Tournament twice with trips in 2010 and 2011.
Last season, the unit finished with a 18-20 record and 9-9 in SUNYAC play, which had them clinch the fourth seed in the conference. Beach had three players earn All-SUNYAC honors, with Tom Kretzler (OF) earning first-team and Austin Hall (UTL) and Sam McCumiskey (SP) being named to third-team.
The 2017 team finished the year third in the SUNYAC, posting a 13-5 record in league play. Beach led five players to All-SUNYAC honors, including three First-Team selections in Dane Cala (OF), Nick Jerolimov (RP) and Mike D'Eletto (UTL).
The 2016 squad finished third in the SUNYAC, going 12-6 in the conference. Beach led seven players to All-SUNYAC awards, the most selections the program has seen in over four decades since 1974 when eight players were selected. Four players earned First-Team honors while three more were placed on the Second-Team.
In 2015, Beach led the Golden Eagles to yet another 20-win season. The team was 10-8 in the SUNYAC conference, including a 6-3 win over eventual national champion Cortland. Three players were named to the All-SUNYAC second team, including senior Zack Lander who held a 6-1 record on the mound.
In 2014, Beach was named the SUNYAC Coach of the Year. He led the Golden Eagles to the SUNYAC Championship game and an overall record of 26-16. The team earned three All-Tournament Team selections, as well as three All-SUNYAC honors. Senior Dan Hurlimann was named All-SUNYAC First-Team and led the conference in home runs, putouts and double plays. Wesley Burghardt was also named to the first-team, recording a conference-high 55 total hits. Burghardt was also named All-Region by D3baseball.com and ABCA. Pitcher Bradley Westling, the Brockport top reliever this season, was named to the conference second-team after a strong year and the most saves in the conference.
Beach also mentored the 2011 SUNYAC Rookie-of-the-Year in Kyle Tracy and one SUNYAC, ECAC and Rochester Area College Athlete of the year in Rob Maxwell.
The 2013 squad saw historic wins over some of the best teams in the country. The Golden Eagles won two out of three games from SUNYAC rival Cortland, ranked No. 1 in the country at the time. Brockport opened up the season with a 7-5 win over then No. 7 Kean, who later reached a No. 1 ranking. Brockport finished the year with a 22-15 record and put three players on the All-SUNYAC squad, including first teamers Nick Bunce and Wesley Burghardt. The 2012 team recorded 26 victories as Beach has led the Golden Eagles to at least 23 wins each season and more than 25 wins in four of his six seasons.
In 2011, the team won 30 games - including Beach's 100th career victory - and advanced to the the NCAA Tournament's New York Regional for the second consecutive season. He was voted the SUNYAC and ECAC Coach of the Year.
In 2010, the team finished with a 23-18 overall record including six wins against nationally-ranked teams. Brockport won SUNYAC's for its first league title since 2004.
Beach won the most games as a first-year head coach when he led the Golden Eagles to a 26-19-1 record in 2008. Only Dick Bonalewicz who won 18 games in his first season in 1975 and Bob Mollenhauer who was victorious in 16 contests in 1980 won more than 15 games in their rookie seasons as head coach.
The 26 victories tied for the third best in school history as the team was led by NABC/Rawlings First-Team All-Region and SUNYAC Player of the Year Rob Maxwell. The senior pitcher and first baseman was also a SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence honoree and voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team. In addition, Maxwell was named the 2008 Dr. Sam Molnar Award recipient; a conference wide award given to the male athlete with the greatest athletic and academic ability.

Beach’s senior year was his best as a Golden Eagle, as that year’s team captured an ECAC championship. He captained the 2003 Golden Eagles to a then school-record 31 wins. Hitting primarily from the leadoff spot, he hit .307 with eight doubles, four homers, and 24 runs batted in. He also went 8-for-11 in stolen bases and performed brilliantly on defense in center and right field.
After graduating in 2003, Beach accepted a position as a graduate assistant in the Department of Physical Education and Sport and eventually earned his master’s degree in Athletic Administration. Additionally, he served as interim assistant athletic director for the 2006-07 academic year while former baseball coach and assistant athletic director Mark Rowland took a leave of absence from the administrative position.
